SREP Expert Group

An Expert Group has been established by the SREP Sub-Committee to make recommendations on the selection of country or regional programs.  The Expert Group has the mandate to recommend six pilots to be considered by the SREP Sub-Committee and a list of an additional three countries in case additional funds become available or one of the pilots turns out not to be feasible.  The Group will produce a report that includes its recommendations and methodology which will be reviewed by the Sub-Committee in June 2010.

County selection recommendations should consider a number of criteria, including:

  • willingness to undertake a program for renewable energy development that may lead the country toward a low carbon development path in the energy sector;
  • potential capacity for implementation, including a business friendly environment; and
  • suitable country conditions for scaling-up renewable energy, such as urbanization, industrialization, dispersed rural populations and the country’s stage of renewable energy development.

The Sub-Committee approved elaborated criteria in March 2010 in the document, Criteria for selecting country and regional pilots under the SREP.
